Is music makruh or haram...?

Salam.

And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur'an) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-Fire).[31:6]

Ibn Masood (ra) said about this verse "I swear by the One other than Whom there is no God that it refers to singing [ghinaa].", and he repeated this three times. Ibn Abbaas (ra) said it refered to 'singing and the like' while Jaabir (ra) is reported to view its meaning to signify singing and listening to songs. Many taabi'oon such as Mujaahid, Ikrimah, Mak-hool and Umar ibn Shu'ayb viewed it as a censure of music and song.

Hadith - Bukhari (#787)

Sa'id ibn Jbayr reported that Ibn 'Abbas said about the verse: "And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks" (31:6), that, "ldle talks means singing and the like."

Hadith - Bukhari 7:494

Narrated Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari that he heard the Prophet saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments as lawful. And (from them), there will be some who will stay near the side of a mountain, and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and Allah will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."

The Noble Qur'an - An-Najm 53:57-62

The Day of Resurrection draws near, None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur'an)? And you laugh at it and weep not, Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone).

Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Allah says (interpretation of the meaning) “Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing)” – Sufyaan al-Thawri said, narrating from his father from Ibn ‘Abbaas: (this means) singing. This is Yemeni (dialect): ismad lana means ghan lana [sing to us]. This was also the view of ‘Ikrimah. (Tafseer Ibn Katheer).

What's an abaya...?

I thought I’d take the time to explain to those of you who may not have Googled “abaya” yet and figured out what it is.  An abaya is the long, usually black, shapeless garment that women are required to wear in Saudi Arabia.  It is also worn in other countries throughout the Gulf, but it is not a requirement.  The purpose behind the abaya is to conceal the shape of a woman’s body and protect her modesty.  There are many different styles of abaya that are worn in Saudi Arabia and usually differ based on the woman’s personal views on the Islamic req
uirements of modesty, family tradition, and status.

Why do muslim women ALWAYS wear their hijab?

So I was looking at websites about hijab and I found this. The person who asked the question really made me angry! They don't understand why we wear the hijab, they shouldn't judge us.

Resolved Question

Why do muslim women ALWAYS wear their hijab?

chrli really don't get it. i think it's ridiculous, i want to know why you do it

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Muse is PalestinianWhat you think is ridiculous, is extremely important to some.

A woman is obliged to wear the headscarf at puberty - but the decision is hers, it comes down to her and no one can force her.

Once a woman wears it, she cannot take it off, unless for very serious issues, such as it affecting her health.

Women can reveal their hair and body to other women, and her immediate family (whether it be male or female), this includes brother, dad, grandfather etc..

It is worn to protect her modesty, and a man must cover up too and be modest, so it works both ways.

It shows that being a person isn't all about beauty and physical appearance.

The hijab isn't just about the actual piece covering the hair. A woman can only show her face, hands and feet.

It is not only a part of a physical journey, but a mental, emotional and spiritual journey. It is very important, and the essence of a woman.

David -
"It's forbidden for men to talk to women, and for women to look at men. It's just their religion and beliefs."

It is not forbidden at all! It is about intention. If you are talking about lustous things etc, then yep, that's not right. Other than that, how does a student speak to her male friend, her teacher... an employee with her coworker... at the shops at the cashier. It's only normal to interact with the opposite sex!

It's not forbidden to look, but to CHECK OUT, yes it is. And it works both ways.

What is Tabarruj...?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Tabarruj

“And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves immorally (tabarruj) like that of the Days of Ignorance. And establish the prayer and give the Zakaat and obey Allaah and His Messenger” (Surah Al-Ahzaab: 33)
Ibn Katheer (rahimahmullaah) said: Mujahid said: “A woman would go out and walk amongst men (i.e intermingling) . This was the Tabarruj of the Day of Ignorance.
Qatadah said: “The women would walk out, swaggering and flirting (with men) so Allaah forbade them from doing that”
Muqatil bin Hayyan said: “Tabarruj is when a woman puts a Khimar on her head but not fastening it properly so her necklaces, earrings and neck, and all of that can be seen. As a result of this, these are all exposed from her. This is Tabarruj”
(Mukhtasar Tafseer Ibn katheer, volume 3, page 94)
Imam Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Naasir As-Saa’dee (rahimahullaah) said: This (ayah) means: Do not go out whilst you are beautified or perfumed, as the women of the Days of Ignorance used to do since they did not have any knowledge or religious characteristics.
Imam Al-Qurtubee (rahimahullaah) said: “From the ways of Tabarruj is that a woman wears two transparent garments that describe her body”
(Tafseer Al-Qurtubee, volume 12, page 310)
Imam Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Naasir As-Saa’dee (rahimahullaah) said: This (ayah) means: Do not go out whilst you are beautified or perfumed, as the women of the Days of Ignorance used to do since they did not have any knowledge or religious characteristics.
(Tafseer Ibn Sa’adee, volume 6, no.107)
Imam Al-Albanee (rahimahullaah) said: “Tabarruj is when a woman exposes her adornment, body features and all that she is obligated to cover which invites the desires of men”
(Mar’at-il-Muslimah , page 54)
The Messenger of Allaah (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “And the worst of your women are the ones who commit Tabarruj, who strut around in arrogance. They are the hypocrites”
(Reported by al-Bayhaqi in his Sunan)

What is Islam?

Open BookThe most complete way of life is found in the religion of Islam. The  word Islam means, “surrender” to the will of God (Allahin Arabic). Since there is only one God and mankind is one  species, the religion that God has ordained for human beings is one. So why the  different religions?
God in His  mercy had sent messengers to convey His message, to different peoples, in  different times. Each prophet came with guidance and miracles that were  relevant for his time, and for his people, but the message was the same: That  there is only one God, and worship is for him alone. This "Islam" was  the religion brought by all the prophets of God. Islam was the religion of  Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all). God has in His  Grace, addressed this issue to man in His final revelation, the Noble Quran.
“Seek  they other then the religion of God, when unto Him submits whosoever is in  the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and unto Him they will be  returned.
Say:  We believe in God and that which is revealed unto us and that which was  revealed unto Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and his sons, and that  which was given to Moses and Jesus and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no  distinction between them, and unto Him we have surrendered.”
(Quran 3:83-84)
“And for every  nation there is a messenger.”
(Quran 10:48)
“And we sent  Noah unto his people (and he said): O my people! Serve God. You have no other  god save Him. Will you not ward off evil?”
(Quran 23:23)

Miracles, MosqueMan was to follow each  prophet when he came, till the advent of another prophet Thus the latter  prophet was followed since there was new guidance relevant to that latter time.  Miracles were also for that time and for those people. They cannot be  re-demonstrated now. All this is evident for example, when Jesus (pbuh) said to  the Children of Israel:
“And I have  come confirming that which was before me of the Torah and to make lawful some  of that which was forbidden unto you. I come to you with a clear sign from your  Lord, so keep your duty to God and obey me.”
(Quran 3:50)
QuranSince these messengers were  sent only for their people and their time, mankind has since tampered with  those previous revelations (Torah, Gospel etc), and the message of those  respective prophets has been perverted, leaving behind much confusion and  hearsay:
“And lo! There is a party of  them who distort the Scripture with their tongues, that you may think what they  say is from the Scripture when it is not. And they say: It is from God, when  it is not from God; and they speak a lie concerning God knowingly.”
(Quran  3:78)
EarthConsequently, God has sent the prophet  Muhammad (pbuh) as His last messenger to mankind. This implies that he must  come with a complete and clear guidance, anda clear proof, for all  humanity and all times till the Last Day. Otherwise the message is void. Also,  the message must be confirming the previous messengers of before. The  revelation, guidance, and miracle he received is the Quran.
“O people of the Scripture! Now has our  messenger come unto you to make things plain after an interval (of cessation)  of the messengers, lest you should say: There came not unto us a messenger of  cheer nor any warner.”
(Quran  5:19)

Prophets after prophets came to reclaim lost humanity. Prophet Muhammad  (pbuh) came with the seal that perfected Islam. The message contains the  teachings of all the previous messengers, and in addition it contains what will  be necessary until Judgement. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has been sent forall  mankind. Thus there will be no other messenger after him.
“Nothing is said  to thee (Muhammad) save what was said unto the messengers before thee.”
(Quran 41:43)
“Say (O  Muhammad): O mankind! Lo! I am a messenger of God to you all- (the messenger  of) Him unto whom belongs the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. There  is no God save Him.”
(Quran 7:158)
“He is the  messenger of God and the Seal of the Prophets. And God is Aware of all  things.”
(Quran 33:40)

The Camel Hump Hijab...? 'A stern warning'

Unfortunately it has become a trend to copy the Khaleeji hijab style, with people layering their scarves and using hair clips to create big, camel hump hijab styles. This is not only a deception but also a form of Tabarruj which is not only contradictory to the rules of hijab but also a destructive sin in the Sight of Allah swt.
This post is not meant as a judgement on any sister or her intentions for wearing the hijab but insha’Allah is a reminder as many of us are not aware of the gravity of such fashions and the affect it could have on our akhira. Allah yerbarikfeekom akhawaat ♥

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated in a sahih hadith from Muslim:
“There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: men in whose hands are whips like the tails of cattle, with which they beat the people, and women who are clothed yet naked, maa’ilaat mumeelaat, with their heads like the humps of camels, tilted to one side. They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance.”
This is a stern warning to beware of the things referred to.
With regard to the phrase, “their heads are like the heads of camels, tilted to one side,” some of the scholars said that this means they make their heads look big because of the hairstyles they adopt and so on, so that it looks like the hump of a bakht camel. The bakht is a type of camel that has two humps between which there is a dip, so that one hump leans one way and the other leans the other way. When these woman make their heads look big in this way, they look like these humps.
With regard to the phrase, “They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance,” this is a stern warning; it does not necessarily mean that they are kaafirs or that they will abide in Hell forever, like other sinners who die as Muslims; rather what is meant is that they and other sinners are threatened with Hell for their sins, but they are subject to the will of Allaah. If He wills He will forgive them and if He will He will punish them. This is like the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills”
[al-Nisa’ 4:48]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah was asked – as it says in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (11/646) – about women who pile their hair on top of their heads, and they will not see Paradise or smell its fragrance. But it is narrated in the hadeeth from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever says La ilaaha ill-Allaah will enter Paradise.”
He replied:
It is proven in Saheeh Muslim and elsewhere from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: men with whips like the tails of cattle with which they strike the people, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with an enticing gait, with something like the humps of camels on their heads. They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance, and its fragrance can be smelled from such and such a distance.”
Whoever claims that this hadeeth is not saheeh and that what it mentions of the severe punishment is not true is ignorant and has gone astray from the path of sharee’ah, and he deserves a punishment that will deter him and other ignorant people like him who object to the saheeh ahaadeeth that are soundly narrated from the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
There are many saheeh ahaadeeth about this warning. For example:
“Whoever kills a mu’aahid unlawfully will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, although its fragrance may be detected from a distance of forty years.”
“No one will enter Paradise in whose heart is a mustard seed’s worth of arrogance.”
“There are three to whom Allaah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will He praise them, and their will be a painful torment: an old man who commits zina, a king who tells lies and a poor man who is arrogant.”
There are verses in the Qur’aan which speak of this warning, such as the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And whosoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger ( صلى الله عليه وسلم), and transgresses His limits, He will cast him into the Fire, to abide therein; and he shall have a disgraceful torment”
[al-Nisa’ 4:14]
This is something on which the Muslims are agreed, that the warning in the Qur’aan and Sunnah to those who commit major sins is true, but Allaah has stated in the Qur’aan and the Sunnah of His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) that the warning mentioned in the Qur’aan and Sunnah does not apply to the one who repents, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say: O ‘Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful”
[al-Zumar 39:53]

Hope this helps you muslims
